But don't you realize that the Palestinians are just helpless children? They are too simple minded to make choices or to take moral responsibility for the harm they cause. The Bibas babies should have known better than to live so close to a "concentration camp" with luxury hotels and universities. It's all the Israeli's fault. They like living under constant threat by their genocidal neighbors (who must never be held responsible for their genocidal actions). If only the Israelis would be nicer to the Palestinians and let them blow up a few dozen civilians every once in a while, peace would spread like honey across the land.
Too much to ask of a J-Street delegate. After all what’s more progressive than to assume Jews are responsible for all evil in the world, and the poor, noble savage Palestinians could never have known what torturing, raping, murdering and abducting thousands of (mostly socialist) Israeli civilians would do. And get this, the Israelis dare think they are allowed to destroy the Islamist terrorist organization that carried out the largest single-day massacre of Jews since the Nazi SS Einsatzgruppen were roaming modern-day Ukraine. Wow, how deluded those Israeli are. Thank G*d a progressive moron is here to lecture them on morality.
Wow, 10 whole days! In ‘progressive’ spaces that’s like years of expertise. How long was Ta-Nehisi Coates in Israel before he dropped soooo much knowledge in his ‘ingenious’ book?
You are an idiotic virtue-signaling narcissist, like most progressives, but especially progressive Jews who still clutch their pearls over the war their Hamas Pals started on October 7 - “How dare those barbaric Israelis fight back against the simple, child-like rapists, torturers, murderers and abductors from Gaza!!!”
Your contemptible organization is why as a naturalized citizen to the United States, but still very much an Israeli Jew with his entire family in Israel, I will never donate again to a single progressive cause, never give a dime to progressive media, and why I remain registered as a Democrat only to fight progressives in elections and donate to defeat them in primaries. You are the people who raised the morons who participate in the Free Palestine cult, rip down posters of abducted Jews, and try their very hardest to save their Hamas Pals from deserved and necessary annihilation.
I could ask “how do you live with yourself, how do you sleep at night”, but I already know. You’re an insufferable narcissist, so you have no qualms about your virtue signaling stupidity.
You disingenuously failed to note that Yair Gallon represents the old Mapai Left and has a very tiny following. You also disingenuously failed to note that Gallon is a notorious hawk on security, even sounding like the extreme right in this extreme coalition.
You also, I think initially, conflate issues that Israelis do not. There is a massive mistrust of Netanyahu and if he is prosecuting the war for his personal political benefit or that of the state?
While true that for a majority of those polled hostages are the primary war aim it should also be noted that a growing number of thinkers are concluding this enables terrorists, puts civilians at permanent risk and puts the security forces in a knot that cannot be unbound; in other words, hostages must be sacrificed for the future safety of the nation.
Finally, while polls show the public supports hostage return there is a very strong feeling that Hamas cannot survive the war as the rulers of Gaza.
Netanyahu is still held responsible for October 7 and must resign or be removed ( and Likud voters agree with this ) there is a paucity of alternatives that redounds to Netanyahu’s benefit.
You omit the stressors on families and the economy that extended service of reserves in the war has caused. Marriages are crumbling and family finances are imploding. The war debt will increase inflation that was already an economic problem for many Israelis.
You overstate the hostility of Israelis to Arabs of Gaza, though it’s certainly there. An overwhelming majority of Israelis across the political spectrum oppose Hamas and Hezbollah. They have questions about how fastidious the government has been carrying out that goal. Few soldiers enjoy the suffering Arabs not in the tunnels are enduring. The long term cynicism is about Israeli Arabs rioting before October 7 and their behaviors during the war.
Your argument about settlers is fatuous and reflects your politics rather than Israeli sentiments. What would happen to settlements on the West Bank, the Judean Hills excepted because of security necessities, is similar to what happened to settlements in Gaza, should there ever appear a partner for peace. Few Israelis outside of the Kibbutzim Palestinians attacked believe such a partner exists.
As a J-Street member, how does your activism to block US weapons sales to Israel tie into this? Will an Israel less able to defend itself against Hamas really lead to peace? Any thoughts on disarming Hamas or would that work against peace?
I was hoping this would shed some light into the rabid anti-Israel individuals in the Kamala Harris campaign, like her foreign policy advisor Phillip Gordon. The author of this piece was her Jewish outreach point man, after previously working for Elizabeth Warren, another great friend of Israel.
All commentary on this conflict from far-left to far-right has been about what Israel can do ro resolve the "situation".
I have a different question:
What can Palestinians do to end the conflict?
But don't you realize that the Palestinians are just helpless children? They are too simple minded to make choices or to take moral responsibility for the harm they cause. What is the positive direction things could shift in? What are the options? Where are the Palestinians supporting this idea?
Ten whole days? Wow.
Can't wait.
About time.
Many senseless deaths overdue.
Done with Israel until new leadership.
Praying for all souls
Sooner or later J Street is going to have to take a stand. I hope it is sooner.
Israel is fighting for its survival. J Street is only ever fighting for approval. Survival wins.
The greatest threat to the survival of Israel is that posed by those who truly believe that the current war is a battle for the survival of Israel.
